LSESU Law Society Pro Bono Division
A Conversation with Kirsty Brimelow
16 February 2026
Kirsty Brimelow KC - Deputy High Court judge, elected Chair of the Bar Council, and one of the most prominent human rights barristers practising at the English Bar - recently visited LSE to speak to our Division.
Brimelow shared how pro bono work often requires a distinctly different skillset due to its personal nature of truly listening instead of applying one’s own preconceived conceptions. Moreover, she detailed some of the more unique cases she worked on, such as children being accused of witchcraft in Nigeria.
Brimelow highlighted how her position as Chair of the Bar Council is actively shaped by her human rights and pro bono experience, and how it is a vocation which enables her to be lead in making a difference in furthering access to justice.
